I’m Tara, an east-coast transplant, bringing vigor and moxie to all things education. Equally enthusiastic about entrepreneurship and empowering individuals to conquer their dreams and passions, and most importantly, to live in the “WOW”.
You are the greatest asset inside your classroom.
Your happiness matters both inside and outside of the classroom. You need to put on your oxygen mask first. You need to fill your tank. You need to pick up your oars and paddle.
Whether you tap into the Universe, Jesus, or Gangster Rap, it’s time for you to become the happiest teacher on the block.
Whatever it takes, you do you, boo.
But sometimes, we can get overwhelmed in the day to day of waiting for the copy machine to be free, prepping for parent- teacher conferences, and getting literacy centers set up, that we dont know which way is up. The coach comes by and offers a night of advice, or worse gives you a list of things to do. The principal comes in for a quick “snapshot” and your nose is barely above water. On top of preparing lessons for tomorrow, you are running late for your second job and you have a paper due for that class you are taking. Your “special someone” at home is begging for more time with you, and you still have to cut out laminated name tags for the field trip next week.
Stop. Stop. Stop.
Oh-Emm-Gee. I’m exhausted remembering those days.
I remember crying in my car surrounded by empty fast-food bags that had collected on the floor-boards because by October, I was too tired to make dinner. My pants were tighter because I stopped working out with the same tenacity I had over the summer.
How was I being crushed under the weight of the very job I had worked so hard to earn?I was following in the footsteps of my grandmother, one of the first special education teachers in Virginia. I knew I was born to do this. I mean, I used to play “school” with my Strawberry Shortcake, Pound Puppies, Care Bears, and Muncheechees in my bed after lights out.
And there I was crying… in my junker Honda Accord named “The Pig” (that leaked and burned oil, and had windows that were permanently closed thanks to liquid cement).
Don’t let this be you. And if it is…. let me help.
I have been coaching teachers for the past 10 years. I am not only an expert in instructional practice and classroom management, but I am also obsessed with personal development.
